Duck food

Lenham Meadows Trust duck food is available to buy from Lenham Farm Shop, 1 High Street Lenham and from Lenham Village Stores.   The packets are 50p each and any profit from the sale of the food goes direct to Lenham Meadows Trust, to help support our work.

Each packet contains high quality pellets which are the perfect food for the ducks and wildfowl on the pond.  The pellets can be scattered in the water or at the water’s edge.  The pellets float for about 2 hours which gives the ducks the best chance to find them.

Bread is very bad for the ducks and bad for the pond too.  Bread is hard for ducks to digest, can cause illness and it doesn’t contain the right calories or nutrition that they need.  It is basically junk food for ducks, filling them up but not providing any nutrition.  If everyone feeds them junk, it can make them ill.  Bread sinks very quickly and uneaten bread then rots, polluting the water and causing nasty surface algae, which can be harmful to the ducks, fish and other wildlife.  It also makes the water smell bad.

We’d love you to feed our duck food to the Lenham ducks.   Alternatively, you could try one of these healthy options instead:

  • birdseed mixes, barley, oats & other grains
  • frozen peas that have been defrosted
  • grapes cut in half
  • chopped lettuce
  • cooked rice
